Citizen Academy for residents of Goodyear, Litchfield Park

, ARIZ. (July 17, 2009) Enroll in the Citizen Academy to learn how your city operates and how you can contribute to its success.

The Citizen Academy is a 10-week program for residents of Goodyear and Litchfield Park that explores the inner workings of city government. Interactive, informative workshops offer valuable knowledge meant to inspire you to become a more active member of your community. 

Academy highlights include meeting the mayor and council members. Learn how the mayor-city manager form of government works, and how revenue is generated and money is spent. There will be an overview of the tax base, federal funds, economic development, citizen committees and commissions, how neighborhoods and HOAs can work with government, and key services like water, roads, traffic, trash and recycling. Enjoy a K-9 demonstration, dinner with firefighters, a guided tour of parks and other city facilities, and learn about plans for future development. 

The Citizen Academy meets on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. from Sept. 10 through Nov. 12. The fee for the 10-week series is $40 per person and includes light dinners and course materials.
