High school students wanted for Goodyear's Youth Commission

 

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (Oct. 9, 2009)  Goodyear is looking for five new members to join the Youth Commission. The terms are for two calendar years and begin January 2010. Recruitment begins Oct. 12 and ends Nov. 2. Applicant interviews will take place between Nov. 9 and 19.

 

Commission members must be residents of Goodyear. High school freshman and sophomores from these schools that serve Goodyear residents may apply: Verrado, Desert Edge, Millennium, Estrella Foothills and Agua Fria high schools. Home-schooled, private and alternative high school students who live in Goodyear may also apply.

 

Members will learn about local government and advise city council and staff on matters that are important to young people in the community. Issues may include new city recreation facilities and park amenities, as well as youth programming and recreation events. Youth Commission members will also gain an understanding of how local government operates and the importance of public participation.

 

Goodyear Youth Commission is comprised of nine members.

 

Online applications will be available beginning Monday, Oct. 12, and must be completed by the Nov. 2 deadline.
