Antoniak resigns from Goodyear City Council
Interim Councilmember to be appointed
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Feb. 4, 2010) Goodyear City Councilmember Rob Antoniak resigned his position on the Goodyear City Council, effective Feb. 1. A resident of Goodyear will be appointed by the Council to serve for the balance of Antoniak's term. An application process will be opened and an interim councilmember will be appointed within 30 days, according to the terms of the Goodyear City Charter.
The process for appointing an interim councilmember will begin during the February 8 Regular Meeting of the Goodyear City Council immediately following the Worksession that begins at 4 p.m. at the Goodyear Justice Center, 185 N. 145th Avenue, (southeast corner of 145th Avenue and Van Buren Street), Goodyear, Ariz. Candidates for interim councilmember will have until Feb. 19 to apply for the position.
A three-member subcommittee will submit their recommendation to the entire council, now with six sitting members. The Council expects to appoint Antoniak's replacement on March 9.
If the interim council appointee wants to remain in office at the conclusion of the temporary term in June 2011, he or she must run for re-election.
Interim Council appointee candidates must be residents of Goodyear for at least two years and be 21 years of age or older.
Antoniak, 34, was first elected to Goodyear City Council in 2003, at the age of 27. He was re-elected in 2007 and served as Vice Mayor until June 2009. Antoniak recently accepted a position with Arizona Public Service as a community development consultant. He said his decision to step down was necessary to meet his responsibilities, focus on his career and do what is best for himself and his family.
