Luke Air Force Base and the F-35

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Feb. 22, 2010)  Luke Air Force Base is on the "short list" of sites being considered as the training site for the Air Force's F-35 fighter. Public scoping meetings are being held this week in the West Valley. These meetings are part of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process for basing the new F-35 at Luke AFB. This round of meetings is "open house-style," where people are invited to ask questions and learn more about the EIS process from Air Force personnel. There will also be an opportunity for citizens to submit their own comments about Luke AFB and the F-35 mission.

In addition to providing for the nation's defense and serving as a key economic asset of Arizona, Luke Air Force Base has a profound impact on our community. For example, base personnel volunteer more than 100,000 hours annually at local schools, churches, youth sports leagues and non-profit organizations.
