Invite a vet as your
guest of honor at POW/MIA Flag Raising Ceremony
ARIZ. (July 23, 2010) All military veterans and those currently serving are
invited as special guests of honor to the raising of the new POW/MIA flag from
9 to 9:25 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at Goodyear City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield
Road. If you know a vet, reach out and extend this invitation personally and on
behalf of the City of Goodyear.
the City of Goodyear staff and officials as we pay tribute to our United States
military prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action in this special
ceremony. Mayor Jim Cavanaugh, a veteran of the United States Air Force, will
speak. The ceremony will feature a Color Guard with bagpipes, and the National
Anthem will be sung by a young resident of Goodyear. All local veterans are
invited to be the City?s guests of honor at this event.
National League of Families POW/MIA flag is the symbol of our Nation?s concern
and commitment to achieving the fullest possible accounting of Americans who,
having been prisoners of war or missing in action, are still unaccounted for
and those Americans who in the future may become prisoners of war, missing in
action or otherwise unaccounted for as a result of hostile action.

July 29, 2010, HB 2684 requires that the POW/MIA flag be flown at
designated government locations on days when the U.S. flag is displayed. The
City of Goodyear implements this new regulation with an official ceremony and
acknowledgement of the significance of the flag, with gratitude to those who
have served, are currently serving, and will serve in the future as members of
the U.S. Armed Forces.
