Know a Vet?

Invite a vet as your guest of honor at POW/MIA Flag Raising Ceremony

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (July 23, 2010) All military veterans and those currently serving are invited as special guests of honor to the raising of the new POW/MIA flag from 9 to 9:25 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at Goodyear City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield Road. If you know a vet, reach out and extend this invitation personally and on behalf of the City of Goodyear.

Join the City of Goodyear staff and officials as we pay tribute to our United States military prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action in this special ceremony. Mayor Jim Cavanaugh, a veteran of the United States Air Force, will speak. The ceremony will feature a Color Guard with bagpipes, and the National Anthem will be sung by a young resident of Goodyear. All local veterans are invited to be the City?s guests of honor at this event.

The National League of Families POW/MIA flag is the symbol of our Nation?s concern and commitment to achieving the fullest possible accounting of Americans who, having been prisoners of war or missing in action, are still unaccounted for and those Americans who in the future may become prisoners of war, missing in action or otherwise unaccounted for as a result of hostile action.

We encourage you to join us for this special event, and let those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom know they are not forgotten.

BACKGROUND: Effective July 29, 2010, HB 2684 requires that the POW/MIA flag be flown at designated government locations on days when the U.S. flag is displayed. The City of Goodyear implements this new regulation with an official ceremony and acknowledgement of the significance of the flag, with gratitude to those who have served, are currently serving, and will serve in the future as members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
