ARIZ. (Aug. 13, 2010) More than 45 people attended a recent reception
celebrating Arts Interact, a special public art exhibit.
is a City of Goodyear program developed from the Mayor?s Initiative on
Children with Disabilities that brings art activities to students with
special needs. Theresa Shostakovich, an experienced artist and teacher, guided
nine students with emotional and mental disabilities to create animal-themed
Foothills and Desert Edge high schools, partnered with ARTability, a statewide
program that helps connect arts organizations and individuals with disabilities,
for the project, which was funded by a generous donation from APS, with
additional support from VSA Arizona, a VSA affiliate and a program of the John
F. Kennedy Center for the Arts.
artwork was on display throughout June and July, in celebration of the 20th
the Americans with Disabilities Act, and then returned to the student artists.
the program and attending the event were members of the City Council, Goodyear
Arts and Culture Commissioners, representatives from ARTability and APS, who
joined the students and their family and friends for the reception at City Hall
on July 7.
