Artist to present concept for Goodyear Park and Ride

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Sept. 8, 2010)  Artist Jim Gallucci of North Carolina will present an art concept for the Goodyear Park and Ride from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, in room 117 of Goodyear City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield Road, Goodyear. The public is invited to attend and comment.

The artist is creating metal artwork for five columns near the bus waiting area of the new Goodyear Park and Ride facility which is currently under construction and expected to open this fall.

Gallucci was selected as the artist for this project in May by a panel with representatives from the Goodyear Arts and Culture Commission, Goodyear city staff, and an art professional. The panel cited Gallucci's original use of metal and artwork that is designed specifically for this site.

Gallucci researched Goodyear?s history and landscape when designing the concept. He has completed public art commissions in several states including North Carolina, New Mexico, Georgia, Maryland, Illinois, California and Colorado. In 1993, he received the Governor?s Award of Excellence in North Carolina.

The installation will begin once the Park and Ride is completed in late October or early November. The project will cost $70,000, with $50,000 paid for from the Park and Ride project budget and $20,000 from the city's public art fund.
