Meet the artist at dedication of fire station mural

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Oct. 18, 2010) The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony of the tile mural honoring our firefighters from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 23 at Fire Station 185, 15875 W. Clubhouse Drive in Goodyear, Ariz., on the corner of PebbleCreek Parkway and Clubhouse Drive. FREE.

Artist Ken Williams will be present. Light refreshments will be served.

A mural of rivers of fire, water and smoke created from ceramic tiles was installed this summer on the exterior wall of the fire station. The large scale public artwork features the Maltese Cross, the symbol of the firefighting profession.

Artist Ken Williams has more than 70 public and private art commissions to his credit. His many awards include the Pueblo Art Council's "Excellence in the Arts" award and the Colorado Governor's "Award for Excellence in the Arts."

The $45,000 project was funded by Goodyear's Percent-for-Art Ordinance, which dedicates up to 1 percent of the city's capital improvement budget for public art.
