Suntech opens in
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Oct. 26, 2010) Suntech Power
Holdings Co., Ltd., the world's largest producer of solar panels, opened its
first U.S. manufacturing plant in Goodyear, Arizona, on Oct. 8. The new
facility will employ more than 75 people by early next year. Suntech plans to
expand next year, eventually employing more than 150 people by late 2011.
Gov. Jan Brewer joined Goodyear Mayor Jim
Cavanaugh, council members, and other officials at the grand opening. The
Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the City of Goodyear played a key role in
assisting Suntech with its selection process. Suntech cited costs, logistics,
Arizona's renewable energy policies and a supportive local business climate as
key elements in choosing Goodyear.
The 117,000 square foot facility features
state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing equipment. The Goodyear operation
will also bolster solar research collaboration with Arizona State University.
