Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (April 6, 2011) Your former piano teacher might not approve, but thousands of people have learned the secret of how to play piano without reading music. To learn how it's done, sign up now for Craig Coffman's nationally-known workshop, "How to Play Piano in Three Hours." Class meets from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Monday, April 25 in the Goodyear Recreation Office conference room, 3075 N. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear.

Coffman's approach reveals how the pros play, as he shares piano players' tricks of the trade. He has extensive experience as a professional pianist and music director, and has taught for more than 20 years. In the 22 years during which this workshop has been presented, more than 100,000 have benefited from this rarely offered program.

The method taught in Coffman's workshop stresses enjoyment and getting great sounds early in the learning process, rather than relying on the discipline and precision stressed in the classical approach. Coffman's "pain-free" method is suitable for music like pop, Broadway tunes, and rhythm and blues.

Many students take this workshop with no prior piano experience, and find Coffman's class materials to be accessible and practical. They learn to use chords, rather than traditional note-by-note music reading. With this extremely simple approach, students discover magical shortcuts favored by the pros. After this workshop, each student will know how to play any pop tune with both hands, using the method presented by Coffman.

Instant Piano class costs $52 ($57 non-residents). Pre-registration is required. To register online visit www.goodyearaz.gov/rec. To register by phone, call Goodyear Parks and Recreation at 623-882-7525. To register in person, stop by the Goodyear Parks and Recreation Office inside Fire Station 3 at 3075 N. Litchfield Rd. Goodyear, AZ 85395 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
