Goodyear pool closed after contamination

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (June 21, 2011) The Goodyear Swimming Pool was closed today around 3 p.m. after an incident involving diarrhea caused the safety of the water to be compromised. The Emergency Action Plan was activated immediately, the pool and surrounding area was evacuated, and the process of "shocking" the water with a super-chlorine treatment began. The pool will remain closed until tests show that the water is safe, clean, and the problem has been resolved. The pool is expected to reopen Thursday, when activities and hours of operations will resume as usual.

Goodyear Pool is located at Loma Linda Park 430 E. Loma Linda Blvd. in Goodyear, AZ.

To beat the triple-digit heat while the pool is closed, check out the Splash Pad at Goodyear Community Park at 3151 N. Litchfield Rd. The Splash Pad is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the summer. For information on the Splash Pad and other park activities, visit or call 623-882-7525.

Or visit the Southwest Valley Family YMCA, featuring a recreation pool with a three-story slide, as well as an Olympic pool. Day passes are available for non-members and cost $5 per child (up to age 18) and $10 for adults. With a day pass, visitors can enjoy all the activities and features at the facility. The YMCA is located at 2919 N. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ 85395, just north of Thomas Road. For hours and additional information call 623-935-5193 or visit the website at
