Goodyear Names Jack Friedline Interim Deputy City Manager
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The City of Goodyear announced today that Jack Friedline was named Interim Deputy City Manager to replace Mike Svetz, who submitted his resignation to pursue other professional opportunities, according to Interim City Manager Brian Dalke. Friedline will oversee the City’s Engineering, Parks & Recreation and Public Works Departments.
Friedline had been serving as Interim Public Works Director for the City of Goodyear since April 2012. In the last five months, he has worked with the department’s management team to make sure services were maintained at an exceptional level while also implementing efficiencies to streamline operations. One of the changes included the recruitment of a Water Resources Manager to manage the City’s water supply properly for the future.
Prior to serving as Interim Public Works Director, Friedline was a partner with PW Consulting, which consulted on the organizational assessment of Goodyear’s Public Works Department. Overall, he has 35 years of experience in municipal government varying from field service positions to Deputy City Manager. Friedline’s background includes experience managing public works services in Phoenix, Mesa and Buffalo, N.Y.
“I am pleased that we have a person with Jack’s experience ready to step into the Deputy City Manager role on an interim basis,” Dalke said. “He already has the knowledge of how the City of Goodyear functions and will be able to provide great leadership on a short-term basis.”
Svetz was promoted to Interim Deputy City Manager earlier this year after spending three years as the City’s Parks & Recreation Director. Prior to moving to Goodyear in 2009, he was the Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Charlottesville, Va. from 2004-09.
“With the City of Goodyear I have been blessed to work with an extremely talented staff and very caring residents,” Svetz said. “I am very grateful to have experienced many challenges and opportunities during my time with the City and I am very excited to take what I have learned and begin the next chapter of my life.”
Svetz’s last day of employment with the City will be Sept. 3.
