Community Park Artwork Dedication
(Goodyear, AZ – April 11) Phoenix artist Mary Shindell will be on hand as the City of Goodyear dedicates the newest public artwork "air, earth, water" at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 27 at Community Park, 3151 N. Litchfield Rd. The event is free to the public.
Tying her artwork to Goodyear's early history of raising Egyptian cotton, Shindell created three Egyptian-style obelisks, 3½ feet tall, for the roundabout at the entrance to the park. Each obelisk holds granite plaques with terrazzo inlay featuring images of sports paraphernalia, desert animals, and Egyptian symbols. Painted steel fences with artistic cutout designs connect the obelisks.
Shindell also created several granite plaques with brightly colored terrazzo inlay for two walls in the park. The plaques feature designs of desert plants and animals. This project is funded by the City's Percent for Art Ordinance.
