Goodyear Extends IGA with County Library District
(GOODYEAR, AZ – April 2) – A new five-year intergovernmental agreement between the Maricopa County Library District (MCLD) and the City of Goodyear extends the original 2007 agreement for the Library District to continue operating the high-performing Goodyear Branch Library through June 2017.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, acting as the County Board of Library Directors, approved the IGA on March 28. As the library’s operating agent, MCLD staffs the facility, purchases books and other materials, implements programming, and maintains the integrity of the automated systems.
“Our partnership with the Maricopa Library District allows us access to the vast resources of the County’s system in a warm, inviting library setting with excellent programs for all ages - tots to adults - where people can meet and intermingle and where librarians can help you find answers on the internet or in books to any question,” said Mayor Georgia Lord.
Goodyear’s 1,800 –sq.-ft. library, one of the smallest of the 17 libraries operated by MLCD, is the top performer among similar size libraries in the district. During the previous fiscal year, the Goodyear Branch Library welcomed more than 78,000 customers and circulated just under 200,000 titles. This compares in the past fiscal year with the 2,000-sq.-ft. Gila Bend library with 40,000 circulation, 2,500-sq.-ft. Aguila facility with 37,704 circulation and El Mirage’s 2,600-sq. ft. library with 86,000 titles circulated.
“This IGA allows the Library District to continue to provide the quality library services Goodyear citizens deserve,” said Max Wilson, chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. “Customers are benefitting through the on-going positive relationship we have with city officials who recognize the importance of free access to important community resources, such as the library,” he added.
By being in the Maricopa Library District, Goodyear customers have access to more than 708,000 system-wide titles. For information about services provided by the Library District, visit ww.mcldaz.org.
