Western Avenue Street Improvement Project Public Meeting on Jan. 15
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Jan. 9, 2009) – Come to an open house and share design ideas for improving one block of Western Avenue, just east of Litchfield Road. Goodyear city officials are interested in hearing what citizens would like the future to hold for this area.
A public meeting and open house will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15 in room 117 of City Hall, located at 190 N. Litchfield Road (at Van Buren Boulevard).
This one-block area of Western Avenue has a rich history. Over the years, it has housed many retail stores, and it’s the closest thing early Goodyear ever had to a “downtown.”
Nearly 90 percent of Western Avenue has been redesigned, and features new street furniture, trees and a fresh new streetscape. The work began more than five years ago in 2003, when a group of citizens and business owners joined forces and formed the Litchfield Road Improvement Project Committee.
A $495,000 grant is providing much of the funding for this improvement project. Seven new street benches were paid for with public art funding.
Here's what’s planned for the open house and public meeting:
6:30 - 7 p.m. Open House - informal time for attendees to view plans and renderings, and talk with project representatives
7 - 7:30 p.m. Public Meeting - short presentation of project and artist's concept
7:30 - 8 p.m. Open House Concludes - project representatives, consultant, staff and artist will be available for Q&A
