Northeast corner of Litchfield Road and Western Avenue in Goodyear, Ariz.
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Nov. 2, 2009) Join us as the City of Goodyear celebrates another Western Avenue Revitalization Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 13, at the northeast corner of Litchfield Road and Western Avenue on the north sidewalk near the Breezeway. With Dixieland-style jazz by Gabriel Bey on trumpet and light refreshments catered by Ground Control, this will be a celebration to be remembered.
The event marks a milestone in the revitalization of Western Avenue. There are new streetlights, landscaping and trees, sidewalks, art benches recalling themes of historical significance, median treatment on the roadway, crosswalk and other traffic calming features.
Custom-engraved commemorative brick pavers honoring friends and family members are a special feature of Western Avenue. The first group of pavers has been installed, and can be seen by the public following the ceremony. Commemorative brick pavers are still available and cost $50 each. Proceeds support the Western Avenue Revitalization Fund and will be used towards for future improvements.
Construction on the Western Avenue Revitalization began in April and was completed in September. The work was funded by a Community Development Block Grant award ($485,000) and a contribution ($10,000) by the City of Goodyear.
